The United States has stepped up its military presence in the Middle East, deploying around 2,500 Marines as part of a broader effort to reinforce its position amid rising regional tensions linked to the Iran conflict.

At the center of the deployment is the USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship carrying elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The unit, normally stationed in Japan, had been conducting exercises near Taiwan before receiving orders to redirect toward the Middle East nearly two weeks ago.

The deployment is not limited to personnel. US Central Command said the force includes transport and attack aircraft, along with amphibious assault vehicles, giving Washington a more flexible and rapid-response capability in a volatile environment.

In parallel, the USS Boxer and two additional vessels have been dispatched from San Diego, each carrying another Marine Expeditionary Unit. The move significantly expands the scale of US naval power now heading toward the region.

The timing of the buildup reflects mounting concern in Washington over the trajectory of the conflict with Iran. By reinforcing both sea and air capabilities, the US is positioning itself to respond quickly to any escalation, while also signaling deterrence.

This latest deployment underlines how the conflict is driving a wider military recalibration in the region, with the US increasing its readiness as the risk of broader confrontation continues to grow.
