President Donald Trump has issued a fresh 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning of severe consequences if Tehran refuses. The move raises immediate risks for global energy flows and regional stability.

In an interview with Israel’s Channel 13 News, Trump said the outcome of the ultimatum would soon become clear, warning of “total destruction” if Iran does not comply. He added that US strikes could target Iranian energy facilities, starting with the largest.

The warning follows statements from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard suggesting the Strait of Hormuz could be fully closed if the United States carries out attacks. The waterway is one of the world’s most critical oil routes, carrying roughly a fifth of global supply.

Trump also sharply criticized NATO, calling its response to Iran over the years “a great shame” and accusing allies of inaction. He said Iran is now facing “the punishment it deserves,” in remarks likely to further strain relations.

Tehran responded quickly. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf dismissed Trump’s threats, suggesting Washington does not understand the conflict and warning against miscalculation.

In a separate statement, the Revolutionary Guard warned that any US strike would trigger retaliation against regional energy infrastructure and companies linked to American interests, widening the scope of the confrontation.
