The European Union’s High Representative, Kaja Kallas, said that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must be guaranteed without any obstacles or charges.
Speaking upon arrival at an informal European Council meeting in Cyprus, Kallas stressed that the EU’s position remains clear and unchanged.
“It is non-negotiable. The Strait of Hormuz must be open to everyone,” she said.
Kallas added that the EU can act quickly in the region through existing missions such as Aspides and Atalanta, reinforcing them with additional vessels, equipment and capabilities to ensure maritime security.
Her remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, where the security of key energy shipping routes remains a major concern for global markets.
