Keir Starmer is facing the most serious political crisis of his premiership after reports emerged that several senior ministers have urged him to step down ahead of a crucial cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

According to reports from British media, at least four cabinet members, including Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, have reportedly asked Starmer to outline a timetable for his resignation as tensions inside the Labour government continue to escalate.

The growing unrest follows Labour’s disappointing local election performance, which Starmer himself described as “tough”. On Monday, the prime minister insisted the party would “be better and do better”, but pressure inside Westminster appears to be intensifying rapidly.

Speculation is also mounting around Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who is reportedly being positioned by allies as a potential replacement. Labour sources cited by British outlets claim Streeting could launch a leadership bid as early as Tuesday, although his camp has so far refused to comment publicly.

Reports suggest that more than 80 Labour MPs are now backing calls for a change in leadership, raising fresh doubts over Starmer’s ability to maintain control of the party.

Downing Street has not officially confirmed the reports, and details surrounding the alleged discussions remain unclear. However, the upcoming cabinet meeting is now widely seen as a decisive moment for Starmer’s political future.
