Filming on the upcoming “Tomb Raider” television series has been temporarily suspended after lead actress Sophie Turner reportedly suffered a minor injury, prompting producers to pause production as a precaution.

According to a statement from Amazon MGM Studios, the decision was taken to allow Turner sufficient time to recover before resuming filming. “Sophie Turner recently sustained a minor injury. As a precaution, production has been temporarily paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming filming as soon as possible,” the statement said.

While details about how the injury occurred have not been disclosed, reports suggest it was not considered serious. The pause is understood to be a short-term measure, with expectations that filming could resume within a matter of weeks. These details, however, have not been fully confirmed by the studio.

The series, being developed for Prime Video, is one of the platform’s more ambitious projects, based on the globally recognized Tomb Raider franchise. The adaptation follows the adventures of Lara Croft, a character that has remained a central figure in action and adventure storytelling for decades.

The project is being led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for her critically acclaimed work on “Fleabag.” Her involvement has raised expectations for a more character-driven and contemporary interpretation of the story.

Additional cast members include Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs, adding further weight to a production that is already attracting significant attention. The series is directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken.

Despite the interruption, sources close to the production indicate that the delay is expected to be limited, with the crew continuing to be paid during the pause. Industry practices often allow for such contingencies in large-scale productions, particularly when health and safety considerations are involved.

The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of television production, especially for physically demanding roles such as Lara Croft, which often require action sequences and intensive filming schedules. However, there is no indication at this stage that the injury will have a long-term impact on the project’s timeline.

With filming temporarily halted, attention will likely turn to updates from the production team regarding Turner’s recovery and the revised shooting schedule. For now, the project remains on track, with only a short delay anticipated.

As one of the most anticipated adaptations in development, the “Tomb Raider” series continues to generate interest, and its eventual release is expected to draw a global audience once production resumes.
