Kosovo and Belgium are moving to strengthen legal cooperation in criminal cases, with a new agreement aimed at accelerating cross-border investigations and judicial procedures.
The Government of Kosovo has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Justice to request presidential authorisation for signing a Mutual Legal Assistance agreement with the Kingdom of Belgium. The move is intended to formalise cooperation between the two legal systems.
Justice Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gërvalla said the agreement is the result of negotiations with Belgian counterparts and will establish a clear legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
She noted that the deal will harmonise procedures and enable faster and more efficient collaboration between institutions in both countries, particularly in criminal investigations and judicial processes.
Officials say the agreement is expected to improve Kosovo’s legal and institutional infrastructure, while strengthening its capacity for international judicial cooperation.
The initiative forms part of Kosovo’s broader strategy to build stable international partnerships, seen as key to reinforcing the rule of law, enhancing legal certainty and positioning the country as a reliable partner in global justice efforts.
