Orbán concedes defeat after 16 years as Hungary’s opposition secures landslide win

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has conceded defeat after 16 years in power, describing the election result as “painful but clear.”

In a brief address, he congratulated the opposition party Tisza, led by Péter Magyar, which secured more than two-thirds of seats in parliament.

Orbán said his party had never worked harder in a campaign and thanked the 2.5 million voters who supported them. He added that Fidesz would now serve the country from the opposition.

Reflecting on his decades in politics, Orbán acknowledged both successes and challenges but insisted he would not step away from public life.
