EU officials confirmed, citing the ongoing political impasse following a Constitutional Court decision that has frozen key governance processes in Pristina.
Kos informed Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti by telephone that she would delay her first official visit to the country due to “recent political developments”, a spokesperson for the European Commission said. The trip had been informally expected around 12 March and would have been her first to Kosovo since taking office in December 2024.
Kosovo remains the only Western Balkan country in her portfolio that she has not yet visited, even as she leads EU enlargement efforts. Officials said she intends to make the visit “at the earliest possible opportunity.”
The decision to postpone follows a temporary **Constitutional Court order blocking President Vjosa Osmani from setting a date for early parliamentary elections after a failed attempt to elect a new president. That ruling halts several institutional functions until at least 31 March, exacerbating uncertainty.
Kos’s delayed trip reflects Brussels’ cautious approach amid a period of institutional paralysis, as Kosovo’s political leadership struggles to form stable governance. EU officials have expressed regret over the situation, underscoring continued support for Kosovo’s EU path despite current challenges.
