The return of Euphoria for its third season has sparked intense debate among fans, with some calling for the show to be cancelled following controversial new developments.

After a four-year break, the series has re-emerged with a five-year time jump, portraying its characters as adults navigating more complex and darker realities. However, the shift in tone and storytelling has not been welcomed by all viewers.

Much of the criticism has centred on the character of Cassie Howard, played by Sydney Sweeney. Fans have taken to social media to express frustration over the direction of her storyline, describing it as disturbing and, in some cases, problematic.

Some viewers have gone further, accusing the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, of relying too heavily on shock value rather than meaningful narrative development. These concerns have intensified following the latest episode, which prompted a wave of negative reactions online.

A number of users have even called for the show’s cancellation, while others voiced concern about the portrayal of Cassie, saying it has become increasingly difficult to watch her character’s trajectory.

Public figures have also weighed in. Megyn Kelly criticised the show’s trailer, describing its content as troubling and questioning its artistic direction.

Despite the backlash, Sydney Sweeney has defended her role, saying Cassie is intentionally written as an extreme and unpredictable character. She noted that the character’s decisions this season reflect bold and unconventional choices aimed at achieving her goals.

The debate highlights broader tensions between creative freedom and audience expectations, as one of television’s most talked-about dramas continues to divide opinion.
